Have IBS? Chronic fatigue or constipation - secrets you must know

Now if you are fed up with the run around your doctor gives you or the alternative health forums about why you cant cure your IBS or constipation.

Perhaps you are at the point that you have accepted that your body is just the way it is. Well there’s some good news, there are actually answers, not the ones that are 30 second cures but ones that actually works; but first some BODY 101 education.

If you’ve ventured into the alternative forums or studied (TCM) traditional chinese medicine, you probably know that bitter foods stimulate the liver which in turn stimulate the colon. One strong substance is Cascara Sangrada, a very bitter tree bark usually taken in pill form. This really does get the colon moving, unfortunately it also weakens the body and soon enough you wont have a regular bowel movement without it!

Now bitter is the same as alkaline for al intensive purposes. Most green plants are alkaline as well and should be part of your diet, if they aren’t well, dont read further until you make a shopping list =)

The bile secreted by a normally functioning healthy liver is also highly alkaline (very much so), this will ensure that foods will be stimulated through the colon to the exit. Bile also assists in nutrient absorption. Now if there is anything wrong with your liver (which if you live in america or any developed country is most likely the case!), you aren’t producing enough bile, meaning that your liver is clogged up or jammed up with junk. I’ll write about this in my next article.

One step is to stop eating cooked oils and too much protein this will help. The second is to thoroughly chew your food. Your body should start working at least 10% better in 2-3 days after this. This topic is a huge one so I’m going to break it apart. Till next time. As always use the contact form to send me questions, they are most welcome.

Don’t like to sweat? Sweat training could be the secret you need.

If you find sweating a bit on the distasteful side, hold on to your horses. Studies find that sweating helps the body eliminate a lot of toxins. If your body has difficulty beginning to sweat; feeling especially uncomfortable before your body gets moving. This is a good sign that the body is clogged up with toxins! Think of a pond with no flowing water, imagine the stench!

We’ll where does body odor come from. You can start right away by using the sauna and sweating for at least 30 minutes a day. Next we’ll cover exercising and sweating. Think back to the 5 second workout working up to 30 minute sauna sessions is perfectly alright.

5 second workout! Can’t be real can it?

Yeah you heard it. The 5 second workout is official. You’d think it could go less than a minute!

Ok ok, so what is it? It all stems from psychology and the way children learn. Children learn the basics first by trying things and if they like something they continue the behavior and if they don’t like it they stop. Basic Psych 101 really.

Now we would like to think as adults we are quite different than children, and you’d be right! But only by a small amount.

Would you ever ask a child to run a marathon, of course not, would you even ask them to run if they couldnt walk, of course not!

But we have those expectations of ourselves when we go and work out. We say things like, I’m going to do a 1hr work out 3 times a week and drive to the gym drive back and then eat well.

I know I’ve been there! Here’s the 5 second work out. Start with 5 seconds, what that means is the first thought that comes into your head like going to the gym (if you havent joined yet start with that ;).

And thats all I said, I didn’t say work out, or even get changed just drive there. Drive there as many times as you need to. You are comfortable driving right? If not we may want to back up =)

Next you are going to change into your gym clothes, this may take several drives over until you feel like you want to get changed. Its ok! The gym is a new place, you may not be comfortable your first time there, remember your first day at work? Your first date?

Right. The psychology is simple, its like going into a slightly cold pool. You go in slow, most dont jump in and if you do you probably dont need the 5 second workout! As you get used to seeing the gym, the people and so forth you will become relaxed and comfortable.

After getting changed pick an exercise that looks interesting, something familiar! Don’t jack up the weight or the speed if its a treadmill, just get on play around, get comfortable. Don’t lift anything and if you dont feel like using that machine you dont have to, just walk away think of something else interesting. Keep walking around until you find something that you want to approach, try one repetition or a really low setting. If you start to sweat and it doesnt feel comfortable slow down, that enough, time to drive home =)

The business side of me says this is a waste of time! Well, business and psychology are two different things. This may sound silly, it did to me at first, seems like voodoo psychology. But psychologists; they know their stuff. Watch young kids the next time they are introduced to a new person, have you noticed how apprehensive they are. Then gradually they become more and more engaged with the new person. If you have a pet watch them the next time they encounter someone new.

More to come stay tuned. Thats the first part, feel free to comment or better yet go try this first part!

Water Quality and Why Filtered Water May Not be So Good

Here’s whats up. We’ve all seen the late 90s as a revolution in bottled water. Who would have thought?

There’s a problem a big one. Have you noticed that people are getting more than 8 glasses a day? Why are people so thirsty? And whats wrong with that?

Well, the water from these large bottled water companies like evian, dasani and others is very well filters to the point where there is nothing in the water. Our bodies need water, but not 8 glasses a day, thats only if you work out. The reason we keep wanting to drink more is the mineral content in the water! But wait there is no mineral content left in these bottles, and through something called water balance and osmosis the water equalizes.

Sounds complicated but its not, what it means is that your body’s water content is full of minerals and when you drink water with very little mineral content the body tries to balance it with minerals, and then you pee, minerals get leeched out and you are thirsty again, because your body is really hoping the next glass of water will have more minerals than the previous!

So what then??? Eat fruits and vegetables, they are richer in minerals and offer a balanced state of water. That means no bottled water! The best source of water is actually out of a well or mineral spring (not bottled mineral spring water).

If you disagree please write a comment, and please do read the back of the bottled water bottle before writing.

CoQ10 Benefits

Our bodies are able to produce some of the CoQ10 that we need. The rest is synthesized from the foods we eat. The highest dietary sources of CoQ10 come from (in descending order according to content): fresh sardines and mackerel; the heart and liver of beef, pork and lamb; and the meats of beef and pork, along with eggs.

How can I know if I’m getting enough?

Elimination Diet Explained

I ask if they’ve ever run a good ‘elimination’ diet and a surprising number assure me that they have. Upon further questioning I always find that they have only eliminated a couple of foods, say milk or wheat or nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, etc.). Even though milk and wheat are common food allergens and nightshade vegetables create problems for those possessing one specific metabolism, this should not be considered a true elimination diet. I’ve often talked with folks that were confident that foods didn’t have any impact on their symptoms.

How could we find whether the airborne allergen in the above example was a significant factor in triggering our allergic symptoms?

What is Chronic Fatigue?

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is an emerging illness characterized by debilitating fatigue (experienced as exhaustion and extremely poor stamina), neurological problems, and a variety of flu-like symptoms. The illness is also known as chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), and outside of the USA is usually known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). In the past the syndrome has been known as chronic Epstein-Barr virus (CEBV).

The degree of severity can differ widely among patients, and will also vary over time for the same patient. Severity can vary between getting unusually fatigued following stressful events, to being totally bedridden and completely disabled. The symptoms will tend to wax and wane over time. This variation, in addition to the fact that the single cause of the disease is not yet known, makes this illness difficult to diagnose, and even more difficult to cure.

The core symptoms include excessive fatigue, general pain, mental fogginess, and often gastro-intestinal problems. Many other symptoms will also be present, however they will typically be different among different patients. These include: fatigue following stressful activities; headaches; sore throat; sleep disorder; abnormal temperature; and others.
